An open source computing platform for behavioral testing
We are working on an open source project that uses the Raspberry Pi single-board computer to conduct rodent behavior tests. Many input/output devices are supported (e.g. infrared, RFID, temp/humidity sensing, etc.). The picture above shows an operant licking device that can be used for alcohol or sucrose oral self-administration. A paper describing this device is published in PeerJ. Designs and code of this and many other devices are available at on GitHub, including designs of several 3D printed objects used in our lab.
